Digital radiography (DR) is an advanced form of x-ray inspection which produces a digital radiographic image instantly on a computer. This technique uses x-ray sensitive plates to capture data during object examination, which is immediately transferred to a computer without the use of an intermediate cassette.

Digital X-ray, or radiograph, is a fundamental diagnostic tool with diverse applications. It's utilized to identify fractures in trauma cases, assess chest conditions like infections or heart enlargement, and detect abdominal issues such as intestinal obstruction or kidney stones. Additionally, special contrast studies are conducted using X-rays for various diagnostic purposes.

X-rays serve as a vital diagnostic modality, offering insights into the structure and function of the body. They are instrumental in detecting a wide array of conditions, ranging from fractures and infections to tumors. Moreover, X-rays aid in evaluating the health of bones, joints, and other tissues, while also assisting in identifying foreign objects like swallowed coins or bullets.

While X-rays are generally safe with minimal side effects, caution is advised for pregnant women and young children, who should avoid X-rays unless absolutely necessary.

WHY SHOULD YOU TAKE AN XRAY?

1) To get primary information about overall condition of the patient.
2) To detect bone fractures in case of trauma.
3) As a part of pre operative work-up and part of overall body check-up.

XRAY PROCEDURE

Getting an X-ray is usually quick and easy. You just need to remove any jewelry or metal things and lie down on a table. Then, the machine takes pictures of the body part needed. X-rays help doctors diagnose and treat many medical problems.

Before your X-ray, remember to take off any metal stuff like jewelry, belts, or hairpins. Wear clothes without metal buttons or threads, and let the technician know if you're pregnant or have any medical conditions. These simple steps make sure your X-ray is safe and helpful.

Instead of using film to both detect and store image data, digital radiography uses digital detectors to produce a digital image, which is then stored separately on a digital medium. There are 4 steps in digital radiography: image generation, processing, archiving, and presentation
