Digital Mammography Sonomammography

Screening tool for Breast Tumour

Useful for early detection of benign and malignant lesions of the breast”

A mammogram is an x-ray picture of the breasts. It is used to find tumors and to help tell the difference between noncancerous (benign) and cancerous (malignant) disease.

A mammography exam, called a mammogram, aids in the early detection and diagnosis of breast diseases in women. An x-ray exam helps doctors diagnose and treat medical conditions.

Breast cancer stands as the most prevalent cancer among women worldwide. Based on research conducted in the United Kingdom and India, it's recommended that women over 35 years of age undergo regular mammograms for breast cancer screening. Early detection is key, as breast cancer is highly treatable when detected early. Unfortunately, 1 in 26 women diagnosed with breast cancer succumb to it, often due to delayed detection and reluctance to undergo screening.

A mammogram, which is an x-ray of the breasts, serves as a vital tool in detecting and diagnosing breast diseases. Our advanced mammogram machines utilize digital technology, ensuring a painless experience while enabling precise identification of any abnormalities. By embracing regular mammograms, we empower women with the opportunity for early detection and timely intervention, ultimately saving lives and promoting better health outcomes.

WHY SHOULD YOU TAKE AN MAMMOGRAM?

  • To look for early signs of breast cancer
  • To investigate breast changes such as new breast lump, breast pain, nipple discharge etc.

MAMMOGRAM PROCEDURE

During a mammogram, your breasts are pressed between two plates to make them flat and easier to see on the x-ray. There are two types: screening mammograms, which are for women with no breast symptoms and are recommended yearly for women over 40, and diagnostic mammograms, for women with breast symptoms like lumps or pain.

Before the procedure, you'll wear a gown and remove any jewelry or metal things. Then, you stand in front of the machine, and your breast is placed on an x-ray plate. The technologist lowers another plate to press your breast and takes pictures. It might feel uncomfortable, but it's important to stay still for clear images.

The woman is asked to stand in front of the mammography X-ray machine. The technician places one of the breasts on a platform. The technician then lowers or raises the platform according to the height of the woman. The arms, head and torso are placed in a position, so that no hindrance is created.

Women ages 40 to 44 should have the choice to start annual breast cancer screening with mammograms (x-rays of the breast) if they wish to do so. Women age 45 to 54 should get mammograms every year

Mammography test price ranges from Rs. 800 and could go up to Rs. 3000 depending on the patient. Women who notice any changes in the appearance of their breasts, their colour, skin texture, and nipple discharge, should consult a doctor immediately.
